With this grant project, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) aims not only to enhance and further upgrade existing statistics and statistical methods but also to develop new statistics in response to evolving needs and demands at both the national and European levels. The main purpose of this Grant project “Statistics for sustainability” for SURS, which is the only beneficiary of this grant application, is to achieve the following objectives: - Upgrading the ecosystem accounts, specifically with use of national data on nature-based tourism-related services (as part of ecosystem service accounts) and developing own (national) modelling system for estimating ecosystem contribution, in particular through the biophysical characteristics and qualities of ecosystems, that enable people to use and enjoy the environment through direct, in situ, physical and experiential interactions with the environment. - Upgrading the national input data sources for wood provision ecosystem service (as part of ecosystem service accounts), with emphasis on reviewing the options for monetary tables on wooded land and timber stocks data revision in Forest accounts, which represent the basic data source for implementation of physical and, in the future, monetary data for this ecosystem service. - Developing the methodology for national waste accounts through detailed analysis of obtained data, identifying possible data gaps and find suitable methodological approaches for integration of missing data, gain additional knowledge and insights from international experts which will result in the preparation of the first national experimental PSUT (physical supply and use tables) for waste accounts.
