Description
Description | The European Green Deal, being the first of the six priorities of the Commission for 2019–2024, is a new growth strategy to make the EU’s economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities. It announces a set of new transformative policies across the economy and increases efforts to follow up on current legislation and policies relevant to it, and is a powerful driver of change in EU policies and their data needs. As such, the European Green Deal impacts official statistics at several levels; it requires new and innovative statistical data collections and innovative approaches to integrating statistical and administrative data sources for the ever-growing European statistical needs. In that regard, with a grant project, the SURS intends to further develop or upgrade the existing statistics and statistical methods to fulfil present and future data requirements at the national and European levels. The main purpose of this project for SURS is to achieve the following objectives: - Upgrading the ecosystem accounts using national data, specifically ecosystem extent accounts (using GIS national data layers) and ecosystem service accounts for crop pollination (using national data and developing our own system for estimating the contribution of wild pollinators to the ecosystem). - Implement the classification of environmental purposes (CEP) in the environmental goods and services sector (EGSS), in environmental protection expenditures accounts (EPEA) and in environmental subsidies and similar transfers (ESST). - Upgrading the forest accounts with the use of national data, specifically physical and monetary tables on wooded areas and timber stocks (using National forest inventory data and potentially new methods of monetarization of areas and timber stocks), aligned with the new Handbook on forest accounts. |
