Steel River Energy Center Solar Project

Construction has started on the Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas, a three-phase solar project. The first two phases will add 1.6 GW DC of solar and 1.9 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity. The third phase will increase the total capacity to 2.5 GW DC of solar and 2.9 GWh of BESS by 2029. The facility is expected to generate enough electricity for over 315,000 homes annually in Arkansas. Google has secured energy from the first two phases through a power purchase agreement (PPA). First Solar will supply US-made modules, and LG Energy Solution Vertech will provide domestically assembled BESS equipment. The project is expected to support about 700 construction jobs per phase and generate $300 million in lifetime local tax revenue.
