Steel River Energy Center Solar Project

Construction began on the Steel River Energy Center, billed as the nation’s largest solar energy project, located in Wilson, Arkansas. The project will supply energy for Google and is expected to create approximately 700 construction jobs per phase, generate an estimated $300 million in local tax revenue, and create around 1,400 jobs in total. Google is purchasing 100% of the energy and environmental attributes from the first two phases, with the last phase set for completion in 2029. Upon completion, the project will total about 2.5 gigawatts of solar and 2.9 gigawatts of battery storage, generating enough electricity to power more than 315,000 Arkansas homes annually. The solar panels are 100% U.S.-made, batteries are sourced from the U.S. and Canada, and structural steel is sourced almost entirely locally from Mississippi County, Arkansas. Tax revenues will benefit Mississippi County and the town of Wilson.
