Description
Description | "The ""Stigma-Out"" project aims to empower sports associations with the tools and knowledge needed to address mental health challenges among young people, creating safe and inclusive environments that prevent social isolation and promote well-being through sports. Main objective: Provide sports associations with the tools to improve their competence in youth mental health. Specific objectives: Raise awareness about youth mental health issues in Europe and the connection between sports and mental well-being Reduce stigma associated with mental health challenges Develop educational methods and tools for sports associations and their staff to support the mental health of young people in their communities Project concept: The project addresses the lack of connection between sports and mental health compared to the well-established link between sports and physical or cognitive disabilities. It aims to build safe, open, and inclusive environments where young people can express themselves freely, preventing social isolation and helping them overcome mental health challenges through sports. Born from real-life experiences of young people facing anxiety and depression, ""SO"" recognizes the therapeutic role of sports in promoting mental well-being. By collaborating with mental health professionals, the project fosters a supportive atmosphere, encouraging open discussions about mental health, which reduces stigma and enhances group harmony and social interactions. Sports naturally foster social interactions but can also be a source of exclusion due to their competitive nature. To counter this, ""SO"" promotes the educational and inclusive potential of sports, helping young people navigate social dynamics positively and build meaningful relationships. Youth sports workers play a crucial role in supporting young people's mental health. the project empowers coaches and volunteers to guide young people through developmental challenges, fostering balanced growth and well-being." |
