Description

Description

Objectives: The territory of the Euroregion EUROACE regions generally faces the same structural challenges, particularly in border territories: low density; Demographic challenge – asymmetries in the distribution of the population, difficulties in establishing the population and attracting a new population, population ageing, low birth rates; difficulty in providing services in the areas of education, health, especially in the most scattered territories and sparse population and the lack of infrastructure/contexts for investment and that allow the creation of jobs and the fixation and attraction of the population. The “villages”, as vital centres for the economic and social development of rural territories, are particularly affected by these factors and constitute a significant part of the urban nuclei of the common border territory. This project, to develop the Bauhaus EUROACE Villages Strategy, focused on the values of the New European Bauhaus, aims to contribute to the definition of an economic, social, cultural, artistic and environmental regeneration strategy based on interventions in villages of local relevance that can serve as an example for identical territories. Bearing in mind that border territories face the challenges mentioned, they soon understood that together and through cooperation they were better able to achieve their development goal. Thus, the added value of cooperation translates from the outset in increasing critical mass, allowing a logic of complementarity that is indispensable for the sustainability of public and private investments, allows for a logic of networking which enables, for example, the joint marketing of endogenous products, the joint provision of services, among others; the prospect of having two member states as recipients makes the process more viable and attractive. What is innovative in this project is that it is built in the territory, with the participation of the territory and for the territory. It is a project that results from a participatory process of analysing the needs and potential of territories. The NEB (New European Bauhaus) approach is also an innovation that was launched by the Presidency of the European Commission and which EUROACE assumed from the outset as the approach to be applied to the territory in this period, and its application to the rural context and more concretely to small urban centres is another challenging element.
