Description | The Stratos Project is a proposed 40,000-acre data center campus in western Box Elder County, Utah. The project involves building a 9 gigawatt industrial complex that is criticized for being a predatory land and utility grab rather than a computing-focused development. The site includes ancestral lands, burial sites, and historic pioneer trails, raising legal and cultural concerns. The project is linked to Utah's Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA) and is presented as a fusion center with national defense implications. The data center is expected to have a five-year operational shelf life before becoming obsolete due to shifts in AI and edge computing technology. |
