The Stratos Project is a massive-scale data center planned for rural Box Elder County, Utah. It will be built on 40,000 acres of privately held vacant land, split into three sites. The first site will host the data center and a large-scale energy generator, while the other two sites are planned for future commercial and public infrastructure use. The project will be built in phases, starting with a 1.5-gigawatt capacity on a 2,000-acre footprint, eventually reaching a total capacity of 9 gigawatts. The project aims to use natural gas initially but is exploring renewable and low-emission energy sources, including nuclear power. It will use a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water usage and requires multiple environmental and water rights approvals before construction can begin.
