Stratos Project Hyperscale Data Center

The Stratos Project is a proposed hyperscale data center complex in Box Elder County, Utah, expected to require 9 gigawatts of energy at full build, more than double the electricity currently used by the entire state of Utah. The project will generate significant waste heat, potentially creating a massive heat island effect in Hansel Valley near the Great Salt Lake, raising local temperatures and impacting the local ecosystem. The energy is expected to come from a natural gas pipeline spanning the area, with possible use of new Allum-cycle energy production technology. The project has been approved by Box Elder County commissioners but faces environmental concerns and protests.
