Description

Description

"Over the past two years, the global community has faced a great number of natural disasters, with their frequency showing no signs of decline, likely influenced by climate change. Between 1980 and 2020, climate-related extreme events inflicted approximately 487 billion Euros in economic losses across the 27 EU Member States. In light of these pressing challenges, the module ""Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance Through EU Law"" adopts a human-centered perspective on natural hazards, emphasizing the critical role of EU legal frameworks. It highlights the rights of those impacted by disasters, addressing the dual hardships they face: the immediate devastation of losing their life's work, resulting in economic and psychological trauma, and the long-term struggle to rebuild and recover. The module comprises three interconnected teaching components: - Traditional coursework offering foundational knowledge on disaster risk governance. - An intensive, informal autumn/summer school program to deepen understanding and foster collaboration. - A moot court competition focused on disaster law, providing practical, experiential learning opportunities."
