Description
Description | The expansion of the capacities of the Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute is intended to ensure the long-term professional qualification of middle-level administrative staff, elected representatives and traditional authorities in the Zambian districts. The training centre is located around 40 km outside of Lusaka and a few kilometres from the city of Chongwe. The FC funding contribution amounts to up to EUR 5.0 million. This will be used to renovate the colonial-era building stock and to build new buildings to create a modern, learning-friendly campus that will meet the growing demand for training places. In addition, the curricula will be adapted to the new requirements by employing an education expert and the lecturers will be trained in modern teaching methods. The aim of the project is to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of local administrative action by improving the qualifications of staff and representatives of the district population. This will help to improve access to basic public services that are the responsibility of local authorities. Since poor people in Zambia suffer particularly from a lack of access to these basic public services, this also contributes to poverty reduction. The further training of representatives of the local population is also intended to increase understanding of the importance and acceptance of decentralization. |
