Description

Description

The FC measure is part of a regional project to support Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons who had to leave their home region as a result of armed conflicts and attacks, as well as the local population in the host countries, whose resources and infrastructure are particularly strained by the refugees. The World Food Programme (WFP)'s regional emergency food aid programme using electronic food vouchers is being supported with EUR 20.0 million, of which EUR 18.8 million is in Lebanon and EUR 1.2 million in Iraq. With a pre-crisis population of around 4 million and around 1.5 million Syrian refugees, Lebanon has the highest ratio of resident population to refugees in the world. The poorest parts of the Lebanese population in particular are in direct competition with the refugees. Food prices have risen due to the increased demand. A third of Syrian refugees cannot cover their basic needs with their household income. 74% of the refugees are food-vulnerable and are eligible to participate in the World Food Programme (WFP) voucher system. The voucher value of currently USD 21.6 million per person per month supports up to 600,000 people in need. In addition, around 27,000 poor Lebanese are supported for a month. In Iraq, around 50,000 people in need are reached through co-financing.
