Description

Description

The FC measure is part of a regional project to support Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons who had to leave their home region as a result of the armed conflicts and attacks, as well as the local population in the host countries, whose resources and infrastructure are particularly strained by the refugees. With a pre-crisis population of around 4 million and around 1.5 million Syrian refugees, Lebanon has the highest ratio of resident population to refugees in the world. The wave of refugees is now affecting all areas of life. The poorest parts of the Lebanese population in particular are in direct competition with the refugees. The increased demand has caused food prices to rise. A third of Syrian refugees cannot cover their basic needs with their household income because refugees are not granted work permits. 74% of refugees are at risk of food insecurity and are entitled to participate in the voucher system of the World Food Programme (WFP). The FC measure provides the WEP with funding of EUR 5.0 million to enable the WEP to provide electronic food vouchers for Syrian refugees, currently worth USD 13.50 per person per month. This will enable 340,000 refugees to be supported for one month.
