Description

Description

The FC measure is part of a regional project to support Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons who had to leave their native region as a result of the armed conflicts and attacks, as well as the local population in the host countries, whose resources and infrastructure are particularly strained by the refugees. In Jordan, there are now around 655,000 registered Syrian refugees out of a population of 7.6 million. Currently, 85% of refugees live in host communities, where the number of refugees now exceeds the local population. UNICEF is using the No Lost Generation Program (NLG) to strengthen the resilience of refugees and host communities in the context of the Syria and Iraq crises. The FC measure worth EUR 10.0 million has a term of 18 months. 126,000 children in the refugee camps and communities are to be given access to formal education. In this context, the development of curricula, psychological support from teachers, the establishment and expansion of educational facilities and the provision of teaching materials for students and teachers are to be promoted. 3,500 young people in refugee camps are being taught technical, manual, basic language and mathematical skills as well as social skills as part of an informal education program. The aim is to support particularly disadvantaged and needy refugees. In addition, part of the FC funding is being used for alternative educational measures for children and young people as part of the Makani-My Space program.
