Description

Description

The project is an open program with a comprehensive approach that includes a package of measures based on needs analyses. These include rehabilitation measures at Yemeni health logistics facilities, the provision of equipment and training measures. The project complements the ongoing FC projects with UNOPS (transitional aid). The aim of the project is to support health logistics in Yemen, in particular to enable the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines nationwide. The target group of the project is the population of the catchment area of the facilities that obtain COVID-19 vaccines and other medical products from the selected warehouses. The project thus addresses the specific bottlenecks and key obstacles to stabilizing access to COVID-19 vaccines and other medical products for the population. Specifically, the measures include the rehabilitation and equipment of up to 22 storage facilities as well as training measures for up to 300 employees of the storage facilities and women-led companies. The rehabilitation measures are implemented by national construction companies. They will be required to use unskilled workers from the local population for selected simple tasks. Equipment, consumables and furniture will be procured for the selected storage facilities to maintain basic functions and improve operational capacity. Examples of equipment include IT equipment/systems and ultra-low temperature cold chain systems (i.e. cold storage, refrigerated containers). The project also includes training for the staff of the supported storage facilities, including training on how to operate the purchased equipment and how to handle and manage the vaccines. In addition, special training measures are planned for women-led businesses.
