Description

Description

The FC module Strengthening rural value chains aims to promote the transformation of Ethiopian agriculture into a market-oriented, productive sector that is integrated into the overall economy. The aim is to improve agricultural productivity and market access for farms in the rain-fed project area, taking into account the effects of climate change. The project is therefore in line with the development cooperation program Promoting agricultural productivity in Ethiopia and the associated development cooperation program objective The income and employment situation of the rural population of Ethiopia is sustainably improved through increased agricultural productivity. The FC contribution amounts to EUR 25 million and extends over a period of almost 6 years. The financing will support small agricultural businesses through the following project components: Output 1 Improved access for farmers to inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, machinery Output 2 Improvement of the services of key actors that are crucial for the functioning of value chains Output 3 Improvement of the capacities of the project sponsor and the project implementation units for efficient project implementation The project is sponsored by the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), which is supported by an experienced implementation consultant. The project aims to achieve synergy effects with the World Bank's Food System Resilience Program (FSRP). Given the multiple crises (conflicts, drought, climate change) in East Africa, the project is very relevant and the promotion of value chains can contribute to higher yields in the agricultural sector and improved food security.
