Description

Description

The FC measure is part of a regional project to support Syrian refugees and Iraqi internally displaced persons who had to leave their home region as a result of armed conflicts and attacks, as well as the local population in the host communities, whose resources and infrastructure are particularly strained by the refugees. The armed conflicts with Islamist groups in Iraq have triggered new waves of refugees. Over five million people need help, of which around 2.2 million are internally displaced persons. Iraq has officially taken in around 290,000 Syrians. Children make up at least half of all refugees. Since there is a lack of child protection measures and schools in the refugee camps, UNICEF is using the No Lost Generation Program (NLG) to improve access to education. The FC measure, worth EUR 5.0 million, has a term of one year. Specifically, the educational offering in refugee camps and municipalities, especially in the Autonomous Kurdish Region, will be expanded (30 new schools, rehabilitation of 200 schools, provision of teaching materials for around 23,000 students and teachers). Children and young people will find psychosocial support and protection in 15 Child & Youth Friendly Spaces.
