Description
Description | In the fifth year of the Syrian crisis, more than 16 million Syrians are dependent on help in their own country or in neighboring countries. Lebanon is home to around 1.2 million registered refugees. The massive refugee movements are putting a strain on already scarce resources and social infrastructure, particularly in districts close to the border with Syria. It can be assumed that the situation will worsen and that refugees will not be able to return to their home regions for the time being. The aim of the FC measure is to contribute to improving resilience in the current crisis by quickly improving the basic social and economic infrastructure. The measures focus on areas with a high refugee presence. The target group includes Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons as well as the local population in the host communities. The measure supports the Lebanese RACE program (Reaching all Children with Education). The FZ grant of EUR 40.0 million is intended to finance the school attendance of refugee children in schools with two-shift operation, as well as transport from the refugee accommodation and the provision of learning materials. Accompanying activities to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Education are intended to improve the overall quality of teaching in public schools. KfW is responsible for the measure as a direct contribution. UNICEF, which specializes in educational projects for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, has been commissioned to implement the measure. |
