Description
Description | The project is part of the program proposal for transitional aid projects Regional approach for transitional aid to strengthen resilience in the Horn of Africa. The aim of the project is to increase the resilience of households in the Afar, Amhara, Oromia and Somali regions that were particularly affected by the locust plague in 2020 and to promote their development. This will be achieved through various measures: a) by providing food in the form of school meals for primary school children, b) through conditional cash transfers in return for working on micro-projects to create assets for the community or one's own household, c) unconditional cash transfers for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers with children under two years of age to prevent stunted stature, d) by strengthening climate-resilient livelihoods for arable farmers and pastoralists through training, distribution of seeds and other goods, and market development programs for the private sector, and e) by providing technical support to regional governments in creating early warning systems for future locust plagues and other climate-related shocks, as well as to the Ethiopian Institute for Public Health (EPHI) for monitoring the costs of sustainable and healthy nutrition. The project is supported with EUR 21.5 million from transitional aid grant funds and will run from the beginning of October 2020 to the end of December 2023. |
