Description

Description

The Fifth Structural Adjustment Credit Project for Armenia's support the Government's efforts in: a) developing the private sector and accelerating public enterprise reform to facilitate sustainable growth and poverty reduction; b) promoting public sector reforms to strengthen governance and improve efficiency in utilizing existing budgetary resources; and c) advancing social sector reforms, including education, health, social protection and pension to ensure social sustainability of the reform program. The project supports the main elements of the Government's reform program outlined in the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP), and is fully consistent with the Country Assistance Strategy (CAS), discussed by the Executive Board of Directors on May 21, 2002. Additionally, the project will provide foreign exchange to support the balance of payments, non-inflationary budget financing, and support the Government's policy to eliminate barriers for private sector development, and advancing social reforms. In conclusion, the project will sustain the pace of economic recovery and poverty reduction.
