The aim of the project is to carry out dual studies in Bavaria (BY) and the Czech Republic (CZ) across borders. Through the dual study programme, study and practical phases are optimally linked. The semester breaks and the practical semesters are used for the practical phases in the companies in BY or CZ. Practical semesters are integrated into each course of study in BY and also in CZ already possible in some degree programmes. Therefore, BY and CZ do not have to make any legal changes or adapt courses of study. Two dual models are distinguished: —Study with in-depth practice: a regular bachelor’s programme is combined with intensive practical phases. A regular bachelor’s degree is obtained. —Combined studies: the degree program is combined with regular vocational training with IHK/HWK degree in a training company. Here, parallel to the Bachelor’s degree, a fully recognised professional degree is obtained in Bavaria. The company’s interest in the project is great. Two companies, MAX STREICHER GmbH & Co. KG aA and Kermi GmbH, participate right from the start and take up students for a dual degree program. Other companies will be acquired in the course of the project. Enquiries from students are already available. The aim is to attract 30 Bavarian or Czech students to the project, to transfer them to the companies and to accompany them individually. The pupils’ enquiries show that they are aware of the positive impact of cross-border practice on their professional future. An international dual study program provides them with valuable intercultural experiences, knowledge and contacts about the labour market in both countries. The project provides a great benefit for companies in CZ and BY: many Bavarian companies have another location in CZ and vice versa. Through dual international studies, companies in both countries can recruit students and connect both working worlds. In the first step, study procedures, semester breaks, practical phases, etc. are compared in order to be able to support students individually depending on the university and the degree programme. In the second step, Bavarian and Czech students will be promoted and taught to the companies in the project implementation. Both models are open to the students, whereby the vocational training in the joint study can only be completed in Bavaria. On the other hand, study and practice phases can be carried out in both BY and CZ. The project will provide a cross-border education qualification tailored to the needs of the labour market. Incentives are created for students to stay in the region during and after their studies, as it facilitates professional mobility and counteracts the so-called “brain drain” in rural areas.
