Description

Studio South Zero (SSZ) is a solar powered mobile studio on wheels designed by Torkwase Dyson. It is a small modular architectural space made from wood components, initially created as half of a Quonset hut. The studio is powered by an off-grid solar system with a small battery bank and is used as a shared space for artists, particularly those who use electricity in their work. The second iteration, SSZ_2, was used as an office for research on infrastructural rights of Black people in the Black Belt, traveling from North Carolina to Alabama to interview community members about new infrastructures and related issues such as water, health, and displacement.
