Studiotopia: Enter the Symbiocene with Arts and Science

Studiotopia: Enter the Symbiocene with Arts and Science is a program for established and emerging artists, scientists and young people to take together a position on sustainable development. It involves cultural and innovative institutions promoting artists that want to be nurtured by researchers from the field of sciences and humanities, and want be informed by the latest developments in research, and to contribute to serious global discourses. Based on the first edition of the European cooperation project Studiotopia: Arts meets Science in the Anthropocene, the methodology evolves around cross-fertilizatStudiotopia 2 builds upon the first results generated by the original Studiotopia project, supported by Creative Europe between 2019 and mid end 2022. The project has been key to support a series of residencies between artists and scientists that are being shown in various exhibitions. The current proposal on a conceptual and contextual level opens up the Symbiocene, which becomes the new perspective in which to formulate the challenges that will be faced by scientists and artists together. The Symbiocene, understood as mutual beneficial attempt between different entities, is the ideal context in which to develop interdisciplinary reflection processes, at the same time, in reconsidering the natural/artificial differences, including technology in the human/natural/artificial relationship. A new way of think about the nature of technology is not only possible, but also necessary. In the field of the symbiotic method, it seems to be preferable thinking about artificial intelligence as a natural intelligence, in other world an intelligence that, just like the ‘natural one’ need to be fixed, need to learn and, somehow discover what is useful and what is not, what is ethic and what is not and so on. This prospective on artificial intelligence could be an important catalysator of innovation: it is a revolutionary pattern to follow for art, science and institution as well.
