Study - Program for developing reserved lanes and preferential measures for buses
Sector: Mass Transit • Location: Quebec, Canada
Source: Infrastructure Canada
The project involves conducting an opportunity and feasibility study, namely identifying problems and potential solutions for improving the performance of the bus service at road traffic bottlenecks in the greater Longueuil area. This project is in addition to the one already authorized by the federal government under the PTIF (#154167437) Specifically, these measures should help ensure reliable a

Description
Description | The project involves conducting an opportunity and feasibility study, namely identifying problems and potential solutions for improving the performance of the bus service at road traffic bottlenecks in the greater Longueuil area. This project is in addition to the one already authorized by the federal government under the PTIF (#154167437) Specifically, these measures should help ensure reliable access at Longueuil’s future transit hubs (metro and REM stations, commuter train stations and terminal) and at mandatory crossing points, such as interchanges. The project will be divided into two phases: 1. Needs analysis study The needs analysis will help identify areas subject to chronic traffic congestion, types of actions to plan and prioritize them based on the following indicators: a) Identification of the congestion areas using the buses’ GPS data. The stretches between two checkpoints with the greatest variations in travel time will be identified; b) Identification, based on transit logic, of the directing corridors for the urban or strategic transportation equipment; c) Prioritizing of the corridors based on generation of a factor multiplying charge X travel time variation. 2. Investigation of solutions A design mandate will be awarded to an engineering firm specializing in road engineering for identifying the most favourable measures for meeting the needs. The firm will also be responsible for preparing an estimate of the costs to implement the identified measures. Awarding of the grant: Q4-2017 Drafting the call for tenders: Q4-2017 Start of the first phase: Q1-2018 Awarding of the mandate to an external firm: Q1-2018 Submission of the opportunity study: Q2-2018 Start of the second phase: Q2-2018 Submission of the feasibility study: Q1-2019 |
