Study on HPI/OOH PI timeliness and frequency

This project seeks to improve the timeliness and accuracy of the House Price Index (HPI) and Owner-Occupied Housing Price Index (OOHPI), which are critical indicators for understanding the housing market and informing economic and monetary policy. The currently used data cannot be used to produce timely flash estimates without compromising accuracy. To overcome this challenge, the project will focus on acquiring data from alternative sources such as commercial databases and web-scraped platforms to identify promising methods for generating flash estimates. After evaluating the robustness of these methods with historical data to ensure accuracy, the most reliable method will be integrated into the production workflow for regular use. Additionally, this project will assess the feasibility of producing monthly indices, which would be necessary to include housing prices into the HICP, which is a long-term goal of Eurostat.
