Description
Description | This project comprises the development of a 170-MW hydropower dam, which combines two stations in Cambodia, Koh Kong province: the 70MW Stung Russei Chrum Kandal Hydropower Plant in Mondul Seima and the 100MW Stung Veal Thmor Kambot facility in Thmar Bang district. The construction has been approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia on November 21st, 2023. The sponsor is Khmer Electrical Power Co Ltd. with an investment of $447.5 million. The investment will adhere to a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, in which the company will erect and administer the stations for a contracted period of time before handing over control to the government or private sector. Khmer Electrical Power Co Ltd is the first Cambodian owned independent power producer (IPP) in Cambodia. Stung Russey Chrum Kandal Hydropower Plant, which has a large reservoir, will help store rainwater during the rainy season. The reservoir stores this water for electricity generation at Stung Russey Chrum Kandal hydropower plant in the dry season and drains the stored water to Stung Russey Chrum Krom Hydropower Plant below to generate additional electricity in the dry season for 122 million kilowatt-hours per year. The initiatives will benefit not only the province but also contribute significantly to the nation’s power supply, according to the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and can create around 230 new job places. https://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/-447m-hydroelectric-project-advances-regional-economy https://cdc.gov.kh/recent-news/cdc-investment-news-90/ https://cambodianess.com/article/over-500-megawatts-of-clean-power-projects-approved https://thekhmertoday.com/news/detail/462 |
