Description

Description

The project will upgrade the Long House to address safety issues and to restore it to its original size. The existing dining hall and kitchen will be replaced with a new structure separate from the Long House which will be referred to as the Cultural Hall. The current Long House, built-in 1969, is physically joined to the kitchen/dining room with the washrooms in a separate building. In 2018, an architect was hired to review the building and make recommendations regarding repair or new construction. It was deemed that the Long House is repairable; however, the dining hall was deemed not worthy of repair and that it should be removed and replaced. The dining hall also lacks proper insulation and an insufficient building envelope to create reasonable energy conservation. In addition, seismic codes and accessibility standards are not being met in the current hall. This project would address all these issues and provide a safe, comfortable space for community events. The project works will include: - demolition and removal of kitchen and dining hall from the Long House; - clearing and site preparation - structural remediation of the Long House; - the restoration of bench seating, as necessary; - restoration of the roof; - new washrooms; - replacement of the dancers’ hall; - entranceways and sidewalks upgrade for universal access; - parking lots upgrade; - construction of an approximately 4,000 square meter Cultural Hall; - extended roof for breezeway coverage between the Long House and the Cultural Hall; - installation of commercial type kitchen; - storage space and first aid room; and, - other related works.
