Description | The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is a 2,000 MW hydropower project located along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh inter-state boundary. It consists of eight units of 250 MW each, designed as a run-of-the-river scheme with small pondage, diverting water through eight head race tunnels to generate 7,422 million units of renewable electricity annually. The project features the largest dam in Northeast India, a 116-metre high concrete gravity dam, and provides flood moderation and water management in the Subansiri river basin. It supplies electricity to 16 beneficiary states, with free power allocations to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, and 1,000 MW to the northeastern region. |
