Submarine cable backbone interconnection between Spain and Italy

The project will prepare the future construction of the Barracuda Submarine Cable System, a new fibre-optic submarine cable connecting Sagunto (Valencia, Spain) with Genoa (Italy), which will be the first and only direct high-capacity submarine route connecting Spain with Italy. Studies will: • complete the marine engineering studies previous to the deployment of the submarine cable, including cable route studies, route marine survey, etc. to complete the architectural and engineering studies and design to prepare the future construction of the Cable Landing Station in Sagunto (Valencia); • manage the permitting procedures to obtain the approvals from concerned authorities, including the technical and environmental studies required for the permit in principle procedure. The project will contribute to benefit a wide range of stakeholders, including internet service providers, telecom operators, and network infrastructure companies, as well as tech firms that rely on high-speed data transfer. The enhanced connectivity will support multinational corporations and SMEs, academic and research institutions, municipalities, and local communities by fostering innovation, market access, and digital inclusion.
