Description | The objective of ViaTunisia project is to build a submarine cable between Marseilles and Bizerte in order to create a new international route between France and Tunisia, and more broadly between Europe and Africa. This project will contribute to provide a new route with Africa in full compliance with European values and EU security and data protection requirements. The existing routes between Tunisia and France do not and will not allow to address the exponential traffic increase (+44%/year) and the existing cables are either obsolete or are indirect routes via Italy resulting into non-competitive excessive tariffs. Therefore, in complementarity with the global Mediterranean Subsea Infrastructure Operator Medusa submarine cable system, ViaTunisia has been designed as a global project of an open access cable that will enable every European and Tunisian operator, through wholesale offers, to benefit from the latest transmission technologies at competitive prices, thereby globally enhancing connectivity between Europe and Africa and contributing to the EU digital sovereignty. |
