Corsica, the fourth-largest island in the Mediterranean, needs to improve its connectivity to continental Europe. The current level of connectivity is insufficient for the development of the regional economy. The overall objective of the project is to improve the digital connectivity of the Island of Corsica with the rest of the European continent. During the Covid-19 pandemic it has been shown how important a good, stable and fast internet connection is. Some backbone infrastructure is already in place; however, it is not operational and thus does not contribute to the connectivity of Corsica. In its current state, Corsica does not have the needed backbone connectivity to respond to its needs. This project allows to greatly improve the connectivity of the Island with optical dark fiber cables of which each one has a capacity of up to 30 Tbits/s. The fiber-optic cable connection will cover 220km from Branching Unit to Ajaccio and would be a part of the submarine fiber-optic network of 1370 km from Spain to Italy.
