Description

Description

Mass Group Holding (MGH), from Jordan, was awarded the Build-Own-Operate contract of the 750MW Sulaymaniya natural gas-fired power plant SGPS. The project was located near Sulaymaniya, Kurdistan. The project can run on light diesel as backup fuel. Turbines were purchased from General Electric (Frame-9E Type), with the eye on future conversion to combined cycle and capacity expansion. Thee 132kV switchyard was supplied by ABB from Sweden. The project was expanded from 500MW to 750MW in 2010 (commissioned in April 2011). In April 2013, MGH sold 50% of equity to Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA). The project is expected to be expanded with another 250MW to 1,000MW. The EPC contractor of the expansion was ABB from Switzerland with turbines supplied by GE. The project holds a 15 year power purchase agreement with the KRG Electricity Ministry. Natural gas was supplied via pipeline from the Khor Mor natural gas field, operated by Pearl Petroleum, owned by Dana Gas (40%), Crescent Petroleum (40%), OMV (10%) and MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Company (10%). Until 2012 the project was operated by Wood Group (UK), but the contract was canceled in January 2012 in favor of Enka from Turkey. The project was financed via corporate finance on MGH balance sheet.
