Description

Description

Sullivan Building is in Charlottetown and houses government offices. This project is construct a new 5 story exit stair adjacent to the public elevators leading directly to the exterior of the building. This new stair is required to meet the minimum life safety and safe exiting requirements for the building occupants in case of a fire and other emergencies. This new appropriately sized stairwell will alleviate pressure off the main elevators and provide an alternate option for vertical travel within the building and aide in social distancing requirements. The work will all be outside the current footprint of the building, there will be excavation. Complete renovations to the 5th floor of the Sullivan building and providing a combination of hoteling (reserved) and hot desking (not reserved) work arrangements will aide in the return to work strategy and will provide employees with a flexible transition back into the office and a new normal for government. Supporting a mobile workforce (both physically and technologically) has become a significant benefit necessary for attracting and retaining skilled staff. The scope includes complete interior renovations, LED lighting and mechanical and electrical upgrades including gender neutral washrooms. Potential occupancy of the space is anticipated to increase by 20% This new appropriately sized stairwell will alleviate pressure off the main elevators and the other stairwells by providing an alternate option for vertical travel within the building and aide in social distancing requirements. The pandemic has forced government to re-evaluate the workplace and to provide a safe, competitive and attractive option for a flexible work life balance for staff.
