Description
Description | In the framework of Jean Monnet action, we propose a study module in Adaptation of European Climate Change (CC) Policies in the European Barents-Arctic Region and the Russian North, in particular. The module will be realized in the form of the annual summer schools over three subsequent years, and with a minimal workload of 40 teaching hours each. The initiative will exist as a going concern beyond the timespan of the funding period. This will contribute to the sustainability of the project. The programme of the summer school will focus on different aspects of the European Climate Change policies and their adaptation in the Russian Barents Euro-Arctic Region. The special attention will be given to the aspects of the European Green Deal programme as applied to the needs of the region. The AGreeDA initiate is motivated by the primary national interests of Russian Federation in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region. These interests range from sovereignty and territorial integrity to high quality of life and economic wellbeing in the Arctic, as well as to preservation the Arctic as a territory of peace, stable and mutually beneficial international partnerships. The adaptation of the European CC policies and the Green Deal should comply with the Russia’s national interest to develop the region as a key strategic resource base. This includes the Northern Sea Route as a means for further economic growth and as a globally competitive national transport network. The adaptation of European CC policies in the Arctic should ensure that the environment and traditional ways of life will be protected. The AGreeDA study module is necessitated by the realisation that the Russian Federation so far is not fully participating in the international consensus on climate change. On the one hand, it formally recognizes that global warming poses a threat to the planet and to Russia in particular. |
