SUNPLUGGED - Sustainable Sun Rituals

SUNPLUGGED creates and shares new sustainable sun rituals across Europe. Sustainable sun rituals are creative community practices that re-discover the relationship of Europe to its solar heritages; that imagine new stories on how citizens contribute to Europe’s transition to climate-neutrality; and that reduce the carbon footprint of the European creative sector. We connect 3 creative communities in Faro (Portugal), Ystad (Sweden) and Bari (Italy) to: - co-produce artworks by European creators, exploring sunlight as an artistic medium, and classify them according to a novel ecodesign label for transnational artworks; - develop a methodology for non-electric light artworks and festivals; - inspire and popularize the creative use of sunlight, slow tech and solar design as sustainable, accessible resources for innovation. - generate popular interest in sunlight as a sustainable development resource and spread the concept to new locations. SUNPLUGGED will support the work of 12 creatives (artists, designers), in the production of 9 site-specific sunlight artworks as the result of slow artistic processes, including 3 participatory mappings of solar heritages, 3 sun-related creative skills courses, 3 outdoors exhibitions, 3 art&science talks, 3 solar design competitions, and 1 transnational conference, targeting an audience of ca. 10.500 artists, designers, children, young people, cultural tourists, and local community stakeholders. Other results are 3 community mappings of solar heritages at local level, 1 carbon calculation method for site-specific artworks leading to an ecodesign label practice, 3 solar design products pitched transnationally, 1 transnational solar design fair, and 1 booklet on the project’s method. SUNPLUGGED inspires a creative enlightenment of Europe that looks towards natural light for guidance and explores slow tech principles to help European communities to slow down their lifestyle and imagine their role in Europe’s path to climate neutrality.
