shíshálh Nation & local governments have moved to solve the heightening water crisis on BC’s Sunshine Coast by investigating the development of two large-scale Water Storage reservoirs. The reservoirs will be used to store water sourced from Chapman Creek, which currently provides municipal (including drinking) water to about 76% of the population of the coast. The two reservoirs considered; Lower Crown & Waterline represent a combined capacity of over three million cubic metres of water. The aim; to provide sustainable water supply during periods of drought and water scarcity, scenarios further exacerbated by population growth and development in the community. The proposed reservoir sites are located within an active sand and gravel mine, wherein mined-out pits, including the partially mined-out Lower Crown pit & the planned Waterline pit, will be converted to Water Storage reservoirs.
