Description
Description | According to estimates, around 2.1 million Yemenis have become internally displaced persons due to the ongoing armed conflict in Yemen (as of May 2016); around 120,000 have already left the country. The Yemeni state structures, weakened by the chaos of war, are mostly overwhelmed by the shift in the need for social services caused by internal flight. The module objective of the FC measure is to improve access to basic services in the areas of education, health and drinking water in the settlement areas where the communities can no longer provide these due to the particularly high influx of internally displaced persons. This is intended to contribute to alleviating the suffering of internally displaced persons and to improving resilience and thus also to stabilizing the heavily burdened host communities (program objective). The project includes measures such as restoring and equipping destroyed schools and health centers, providing pregnancy care, obstetrics and post-natal care, immunizing young children, educational and hygiene campaigns, and rehabilitating water supply systems. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is responsible for implementing the measures. |
