Support for NDC implementation in Rwanda (NDC Facility) Phase II

Rwanda is considered a pioneer and ambitious partner in the fight against climate change. In May 2020, it was the first African country to present its updated national contributions to achieving the Paris Agreement (so-called Nationally Determined Contributions, NDC). Rwanda's NDC have received a great deal of international attention. In addition to CO2 reduction measures, they also describe the need for extensive measures to adapt to climate change. As part of this project, FONERWA will set up a facility for projects that make a direct contribution to achieving Rwanda's NDC. The projects will be selected by FONERWA through calls for applications. The selection criteria should be closely aligned with the priorities of the NDC so that meaningful development impacts with an environmental and climate focus and relevance for the Rwandan population can be achieved. The aim of the FC measure is to use FONERWA's sustainable climate financing mechanism to contribute to strengthening the climate resilience of the Rwandan population and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
