Afghan refugees, Pakistani internally displaced persons, rural or climate refugees, migrant workers and originally local poor people usually settle in the same, structurally disadvantaged places, looking for a place to stay with prospects for themselves and their families. The resulting uncontrolled influx puts strong pressure on natural, economic and social resources that are already scarce in these places, which are mostly located in urban areas. The provincial capitals of Peshawar (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) and Quetta (Balochistan province) in particular are severely affected by rapid, uncontrolled influx. In some residential areas, the municipal infrastructure is non-existent or inadequate, as is access to state education and health services, as well as water, sanitation and electricity supplies. The FC module makes a financial contribution to creating future prospects for poor, marginalized population groups in urban centers in Peshawar and Quetta with a migrant population of over 20%, using participatory approaches. This is to be achieved, among other things, by improving municipal infrastructure, mobilizing residents to participate in needs assessments, identifying, selecting, implementing and maintaining municipal infrastructure, and improving access to paid work and livelihood support measures. The target group of the project are residents affected by poverty, flight and displacement in selected districts of the provincial capitals of Peshawar and Quetta, with a particular focus on women and young people (between 15 and 20 years of age). The recipient of the FC contribution is the Pakistani government, represented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The project sponsors are the planning authorities (Planning and Development Department), which represent the respective provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.
