Support for the national small-scale irrigation programme

The project aims to improve the nutritional situation of the rural population of Mali by creating small irrigation systems and agricultural infrastructure. This is achieved through increased and fair use of irrigation potential, through sustainable and resource-saving management of cultivated areas and through training women in improved nutritional practices. In addition, topics of agroecological production and diversification as well as sustainable valorization and maintenance are being promoted. The target group of the project is around 50,000 people in the Mopti and Timbuktu regions. The target group mainly includes small farming families and small entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, with an explicit focus on women and young people. The Direction Nationale du Génie Rural (DNGR) is responsible for implementation as the national sponsor, supported by an international consultant, whereby the Malian state also shows its presence in security-critical regions and thus contributes to peace and stabilization. The total cost of the programme is expected to amount to EUR 10.6 million, divided into a FC contribution of EUR 10 million and a contribution of EUR 0.6 million borne by the Malian state and the users.
