Support FTAA Negotiations

The object of the project is to repond in an effective manner to the request of the 34 heads of state and their trade ministers thaht the Bank, OAS and CEPAL, within the framework of the Tripartite Committee, provide technical support to the neogtiations to establish the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). During the period 2001-2002, the project will provide technical support reuqested by the negotiations through a series of short term consultancies on very specialized trade topics and whose specific contents vary dependent on the orientation and rhythm of the negotiations. The designated areas for assistance from the project are: the Trade Negotiation Committees (whose executive arm is formed by the Viceministers of Trade); four negotiating groups; and four committees. The project is totally separate from the RTC for the FTAA Administrative Secretariat. That operation is oriented exclusively towards logistical support for the negotiations.
