Support to Competitiveness Program in MG and PE

The objective of this technical cooperation is to support the preparation of the Cluster Competitiveness Programs for the states of Minas Gerais and Pernambuco on defining the most appropriate intervention actions in the APLs of each state, through: I) the support of the development of the Competitiveness Improvement Plans of the 4 prioritized APLs (Electro-Eletronic and Footwear in Minas Gerais; Gypsum and Clothing in Pernambuco); ii) the evaluation of the domestic and international markets of each APL; and, iii)the introduction of a more comparative and international perspective, including benchmarking of the best practices in cluster promotion. Those 2 loans are forecasted in the Bank's program for 2005, are each for US$ 10 millions, are in the initial stage of preparation and have a common goal of supporting the competitiveness development of the selected clusters and promote the strengthening of a public-private institutional capacity.
