Core problem Almost five million Burkinabe have no access to safe drinking water and more than fourteen million have no access to adequate sanitation. Due to budget constraints, the Burkinabe government's scope for action in financing the improvement and expansion of the water and sanitation infrastructure is limited. Module objective The aim of the FC project is to support the Burkinabe government in implementing the national water and sanitation strategy in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The aim of the measure (DC program objective) is to help improve the population's access to drinking water and sanitation, particularly in suburban areas and villages close to cities. Key outputs The German contribution of EUR 15.6 million will be financed over three years on the basis of the entry criteria for granting sectoral budget financing in accordance with the BMZ budget support concept and after approval by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag. Payments will be made in three annual tranches based on the achievement of specified targets in the sector. Target group The target group is the entire population of Burkina Faso in the outskirts of cities and villages close to the city. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 (not in the MV) The project therefore contributes to the goals 1 permanently end poverty in all forms everywhere, 3 promote health and well-being for all, 6 enable availability of water and sanitation for sustainable development and thus to the implementation of Agenda 2030.
