The general performance of the Nigerian financial sector is insufficient to provide the general population and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with sufficient financial services that are appropriate for their target groups. The majority of the population in Nigeria is excluded from formal banking services and MSMEs do not have adequate access to credit. As a result, investments that promote growth and employment are often not carried out. This represents a serious obstacle to Nigeria's overall economic development. The aim of the project is to provide loans and other financial services to the target group of MSMEs in an efficient, needs-based and sustainable manner. To achieve this goal, the project includes the granting of a subordinated loan to AB Microfinance Bank Nigeria to strengthen the regulatory capital base so that the range of sustainable financial services for Nigerian MSMEs can be expanded.
