As part of the FEICOM municipal development project, funds are to be made available to selected medium-sized towns through the Fonds Spécial dÉquipement et dIntervention Intercommunale (FEICOM) to finance economic (i.e. income-generating) and social infrastructure as well as investment-related measures. By focusing on medium-sized towns with democratically legitimized administrations and promoting transparency and citizen participation in the selection and implementation of individual investment measures, the decentralization process in Cameroon is supported. The aim of the project is to improve the use of the sustainably provided infrastructure and services by the population as a result of improved service offerings, transparency and citizen participation by the municipal administrations, as well as improved support for the municipalities through the institutionally strengthened FEICOM. The target group is the urban and surrounding rural population. The measure is part of the development cooperation program Decentralization, Local Development and Good Governance and contributes to achieving the goals of the national development strategy. It is a continuation of the project Support for Decentralisation and Local Development II, BMZ No. 2010 66 844. The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 5.4 million, of which EUR 5.0 million is the FC share and EUR 0.4 million is the expected own contribution from the cities, corresponding to 10% of the investment costs.
