Description

Description

The aim of the FC measure is to make a further contribution to alleviating the effects of the ongoing food crisis in Ethiopia and to contribute both to combating malnutrition and to building productive livelihoods to protect against future crises. The aim is to significantly improve the nutritional situation of the population in Ethiopia suffering from the effects of food shortages in the short term. Due to the particular urgency of the measure, the German contribution is being used to co-finance an ongoing WEP programme. Specifically, this is PRRO 200290 Support in humanitarian crisis situations and strengthening resilience to food insecurity. PRRO 200290 runs from January 2012 to December 2013. An extension until June 2015 is to be approved by the Executive Council in November 2013. Germany has announced that it will support the extension. The PRRO was already supported by the German government in 2012. It includes three components, the following of which are to be supported: general emergency food aid (relief) and the creation of social structures for improved food security/safety nets (Productive Safety Net Programme - PSNP). The total cost of the PRRO (January 2012 to June 2015) is estimated at around USD 1.49 billion according to the most recent budget revision. So far, only 19% of the remaining costs for 2013 (October to December) have been covered. The FC funding contribution amounts to EUR 8.22 million, plus a stock check of EUR 17.5 million.
