Description

Uganda has now taken in over 1.3 million refugees, mainly from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi, making it one of the largest host countries. The region that has taken in the most refugees is northern Uganda, which is characterized by particularly low income levels and major structural weaknesses. The program is co-financing for UNHCR's country program in Uganda. The aim of the FC project is to improve the operation and use of social infrastructure and to promote peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities. It focuses in particular on the operation and maintenance of water supply systems, the construction and maintenance of permanent school buildings and measures for peaceful coexistence, particularly through dialogue programs for young people. The recipient and program sponsor of the measure is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The total cost is EUR 15 million and the duration is 48 months (2018 to 2021).
