Description
Description | The project contributes to peace consolidation and poverty reduction (program objective). Employment-intensive rehabilitation work on the Obokote - Punia road axis and the rehabilitation of social and economic infrastructure to connect the province of Maniema and the local center of Punia to the national road network are financed. It thus contributes to reviving local economic cycles and creating income and employment (module objective). The target group is the poor local population, most of whom fled the area during the war years, as well as former combatants. The total cost of the project is EUR 10.3 million. Of this, EUR 5.0 million will be financed from the Peace Fund project as agreed. A financing proposal is hereby submitted for a further EUR 5.0 million. The remaining EUR 0.3 million will be provided by Welthungerhilfe as a contribution. In addition, consulting services for the project will be provided from the Peace Fund's fund management structure. The project will continue the employment-intensive investment measures from the project Supporting the Reintegration of Ex-Combatants and Refugees, BMZ No. 2004 66 045 (Rehabilitation of the 275 km long road axis Walikale - Lubutu - Obokote/Ogahdula). The second phase will continue this rehabilitation work on the Obokote/Ogandula - Punia axis (76 km) in the direction of Kindu in cooperation with Welthungerhilfe e.V. (WHH), which was already responsible for the employment-intensive investment measures in Phase I. |
