Description
Description | The aim of the training measure is to contribute to improving the food situation of the population groups affected by the drought and - as a medium-term effective measure - to strengthen resilience for future drought periods and to keep drought-related school closures for teachers and students as low as possible. The target group are the vulnerable population groups in Mozambique affected by the food shortage caused by the drought caused by El Niño. The measures in Phase II include 1.) Food for Assets and strengthening resilience (approx. EUR 1.56 million) The population groups most affected work on the construction of smaller village infrastructure measures that improve resilience to droughts (e.g. cisterns). In return, food is made available. The German financial contribution reaches around 55,500 people in the particularly affected provinces. 2.) School meals (approx. EUR 1.04 million) In the most affected provinces, the drought has had a major impact on the attendance of children and teachers in school. Since 2015, WEP has been providing school meals for children and teachers in the provinces of Gaza and Inhambane as well as Tete, which has already led to a significant increase in the attendance of students and teachers in class. By extending the program with the help of the German financial contribution, at least around 30,000 beneficiaries will be reached. |
