Description | The Surety Hotel required substantial rehabilitation work for the adaptive reuse of the historic 12-story building to a boutique hotel. Originally constructed in 1910, the 12-story steel and clay tile building was one of the first Des Moines high-rise buildings. Construction was highlighted by the restoration of historic elements including first floor plaster ceilings and walls, elevator/corridor lobbies on upper floors, building façade, and original wood flooring. Interior construction required demolition of the upper floors and revised layout to facilitate 137 keys on the upper floors. Level 2 includes business offices, conference rooms and fitness center. The first floor encompasses the lobby, ballroom, and restaurant equipped with wood-fired brick oven. The basement houses all back-of-house areas including mechanicals, storage, and employee amenities. |
